Remotes are used everywhere from TV’s to DVD players, here is a project that allows you to control your PC using a remote control. You can move cursor & increase/decrease the volume without having to get up from your seat. The applications of the PC Remote are only limited by the PC side software. You can yourself write software in VB or VC & increase the number of software that the remote can control.

Our device consists of the following section

1.       Microcontroller.

2.       IR Receiver.

3.       MAX 232.

4.       Power Supply.

Microcontroller

It is the heart of the unit. We have used ATMEL’s 20 pin microcontroller AT89C205I. The controller gets the data from the IR receiver & sends it serially to PC.IR Receiver

TSOP 1738 is used as IR receiver it is the same one that is used in TV. The receiver receives the data & gives it to the controller.

MAX232

Communication with the PC is done through the SERIAL PORT. The protocol of serial port is RS-232, for interfacing the controller to the PC using RS 232 protocol we require MAX 232 IC.POWER SUPPLY

The complete circuit works on 5volts. In this section this 5 volts is generated from 230v.  Click here for Power Supply Details.
