DC Female Power Jack details PCB & Panel Mounting

DC female power jack are commonly used in electronic industry to connect adapters to your circuit board. Most commonly used DC female jack is 2.1mm x 5.5 mm DC jack. Where 5.5mm is the outer diameter and 2.1mm is the intrenal pin size.

The DC plug (male) should match this dimension for proper matching. Most of the non proprietary co-axial power plugs match the 2.1 x 5.5 dimensions. In most of the DC plug the outer body is the negative supply and the internal is the positive.

Basic Type of DC Female Jack

  1. PCB Mounting female Jack

  2. Cabinet Mount or Panel Mount female Jack

Below is a basic video of two types of DC jack

  • PCB Mount DC female Jack

The PCB Mount DC female jack are widely used in lots of DIY projects and also used in Arduino UNO, Arduino Mega and Arduino Due Boards. The PCB Mount female jack has three pins.

  • Cabinet Mount DC Jack

The cabinet mount or Panel Mount DC Jack is widely used where you need to provide DC power supply to your circuit which is mounted inside a cabinet. The Panel Mount DC jack is provided with metal nut and can easily be screwed on your cabinet.

PINOUT for PCB Mount and Panel Mount DCJack

Polarity and PINOUT For PCB Mounting DC Socket

  • Positive (Vcc): Back (END) of the Jack

  • Negative (Gnd): Just behind the Insert Hole

  • Plug Detect: Side of the Jack (Normally Not used)

Polarity and PINOUT For Cabinet Mount DC Jack

  • Positive (Vcc): Back (END) of the Jack (The Biggest one)

  • Negative (Gnd): the one opposite to biggest one

  • Plug Detect: The one in Middle Center Lug (Normally Not used)
