7485 4-Bit Magnitude Comparator
7485/F7485/74LS85/74HC85 are 4-bit magnitude comparators perform comparison ofstraight binary or BCD codes.
Three fully-decoded decisionsabout two 4-bit words (A, B) are made and are externallyavailable at three outputs. These devices are fully expandableto any number of bits without external gates. Words ofgreater length may be compared by connecting comparatorsin cascade. The A l B, A k B, and A e B outputs of astage handling less-significant bits are connected to the correspondinginputs of the next stage handling more-significantbits. The stage handling the least-significant bits must have a high-level voltage applied to the A e B input. Thecascading paths are implemented with only a two-gate-leveldelay to reduce overall comparison times for long words.
