The PC817B is an optocoupler (also known as an optoisolator) that consists of a gallium arsenide infrared LED and a silicon phototransistor housed in a 4-pin Dual Inline Package (DIP). It is designed to provide electrical isolation between its input and output, typically used to isolate different sections of a circuit to prevent high voltages from affecting the system receiving the signal.
